Cotic Unveils Jeht 3: A Hybrid Mountain Bike with Mixed-Wheel Design

Cotic, a prominent British bicycle company celebrated for its high-performance steel and aluminum mountain bikes, has introduced its latest innovation: the third-generation Cotic Jeht 3. This new model ingeniously merges the characteristics of a trail bike and an enduro bike, distinguishing itself with an exclusive commitment to a mixed-wheel configuration. The Jeht 3 marks a significant evolution in Cotic's lineup, promising a versatile and exhilarating riding experience.

The Jeht 3, boasting 150mm of rear suspension travel, steps in to succeed the 140mm Jeht trail bike and the 160mm Cotic RocketMAX enduro bike, both of which traditionally featured identical 29er wheels. Cy Turner, Cotic's founder and director, emphasized the strategic shift to a mixed-wheel design, citing its proven benefits in handling and performance, as observed with the Rocket eMTB. This decision was further validated by the substantial number of RocketMAX riders who had already adopted mixed-wheel setups, underscoring a clear rider preference.

Cotic provides the Jeht 3 in two distinct configurations: a trail build and an enduro build. The trail version is equipped with a 150mm fork and lighter tires, catering to agile and responsive riding. In contrast, the enduro build features a more robust 160mm fork and sturdier wheels, designed to withstand the demands of aggressive descents and challenging terrains. This dual-build strategy ensures that the Jeht 3 can be tailored to individual riding styles and preferences.

A notable aspect of the Jeht 3's design is its extended geometry, which is specifically optimized for the 27.5-inch rear wheel. This approach, as explained by Turner, bypasses the need for "flip-chips" or bolt-on adjustments, providing a dedicated and uncompromised riding posture. The new geometry includes chainstay lengths exceeding 450mm, which vary by frame size, and reach measurements that are 12-13mm longer across all models. Furthermore, the seat tube angle has been steepened by a full 2 degrees, enhancing climbing efficiency. When fitted with a 160mm fork, the geometry subtly shifts, with slight reductions in reach, head tube angle, and seat tube angle, demonstrating the bike's adaptability.

Crafted in the UK, the Cotic Jeht 3 showcases a sophisticated blend of materials, featuring a Reynolds 853 and T45 steel front end seamlessly integrated with an aluminum swingarm. The updated model also incorporates a completely straight seat tube, designed to maximize dropper post insertion without interruption. The cable routing has been refined, employing a combination of internal and external pathways. Notably, the dropper post cable now enters the downtube, and the rear derailleur cable has been repositioned to the chainstay. Crucially, the rear brake hose remains externally routed, facilitating effortless maintenance and part swaps.

The Jeht 3 is now UDH-compatible, ensuring future-proof integration with modern drivetrain technologies and simplifying the replacement of hangers. Moreover, the bike inherits its innovative Rocklink suspension system from the Rocket eMTB. This design, necessitated by the eMTB's battery placement, strategically frees up space within the front triangle of the non-electric Jeht, allowing for the convenient mounting of one or even two water bottles. The Rocklink suspension is also coil-compatible and represents an advanced iteration of the previously utilized droplink design. The Cotic Jeht frame is priced at approximately $3,470 USD, with complete builds beginning at $5,600, although tariffs may add an additional 10% to the cost.
