Georgia Angler's Record-Breaking Crappie Catch on Lake Seed

A seasoned fisherman, Jeff Smith, who typically targets walleyes in Georgia's northeastern lakes, recently achieved an unexpected milestone on Lake Seed. On the morning of November 5th, while fishing alone for crappies in the 240-acre reservoir, Smith located a familiar flooded treetop, a spot known for occasionally harboring large crappies.

Smith’s persistence paid off as he quickly began reeling in substantial black crappies. Utilizing a small 1/16-ounce soft plastic jig tipped with a live minnow, he successfully landed nine impressive crappies, each weighing over a pound. The largest of these catches, a 16.6-inch long black crappie, was officially weighed at 2 pounds, 2 ounces at the Georgia Lake Burton Fish Hatchery by James Miles, securing a new lake record for Smith.

This achievement is not Smith's first, as he previously held the lake record for bluegill, weighing over one pound. He has consistently demonstrated a knack for record-breaking catches in the region's smaller power plant reservoirs.
