Finally, the market for hiking-specific apparel often presents overpriced items that offer little functional improvement over more affordable, general-purpose athletic wear. Many polyester shirts from outdoor brands are functionally identical to those from discount retailers, suggesting that the premium price is often for branding rather than performance. Opting for versatile, comfortable, and less expensive clothing items, perhaps even from thrift stores, allows hikers to allocate their budget more effectively toward genuinely impactful gear without sacrificing comfort or utility on the trail.
