Israel-Premier Tech Renamed NSN Cycling Amidst Rebranding and Ownership Changes

Israel-Premier Tech has undergone a significant transformation, officially announcing its new identity as NSN Cycling. This change signifies a major restructuring in ownership and brand direction. The team's operational license is now held by NSN, an international sports and entertainment company, supported by the Swiss investment bank Stoneweg. This strategic pivot comes after previous declarations about distancing the team from its former Israeli ties, particularly in response to protests and safety concerns encountered during recent competitions. This rebranding also appears to mark the departure of co-owner Sylvan Adams, who was instrumental in establishing the team.

The transition to NSN Cycling sees the team's license transferred to NSN, an acronym for Never Say Never, an international sports and entertainment entity. This move, announced on a Thursday evening, positions the team under new management with the financial backing of Stoneweg, a global alternative investment group. Subject to regulatory approvals, the newly formed NSN Cycling is poised to ascend to WorldTour status next season. It is expected to be officially registered in Switzerland and operate from a base in Spain, further solidifying its international presence. The cycling world is also abuzz with speculation that prominent rider Biniam Girmay will be joining the squad.

The decision to rename and rebrand the team, moving away from its previous Israeli identity, was initially revealed last month. This strategic shift was largely influenced by the backdrop of ongoing protests against the team's participation in races throughout the current season, which were linked to the conflict in Gaza. Notably, the team faced considerable opposition at the Vuelta a España, where several stages were shortened, and in two instances, no winner was declared due to disruptions. Furthermore, the team was subsequently uninvited from October's Giro dell’Emilia, citing safety concerns stemming from pro-Palestine demonstrations.

The press release detailing the change to NSN Cycling made no explicit mention of Sylvan Adams, the team's former co-owner. However, the transfer of the license strongly indicates his exit from the project. Adams co-founded the team in 2014 alongside Ron Baron, initially establishing it as the Cycling Academy Team. Over the years, it evolved through various names, including Israel Start-Up Nation, before becoming Israel-Premier Tech. The team will continue under the management of Kjell Carlström, and the roster for the upcoming season includes a strong British contingent featuring riders like Stevie Williams, Jake Stewart, Joe Blackmore, Lewis Askey, and Ethan Vernon.

NSN, the new owner, has diverse interests in the sports world. Co-founded by former Spanish and Barcelona football icon Andrés Iniesta, the company also owns Helsingør FC, a team in the Danish Second Division, and holds a majority stake in GUAVA, a gravel bike brand, among other ventures. This broad portfolio highlights NSN's extensive involvement in various facets of the sports and entertainment industry.
