Life Time Grand Prix Wild Card Selections Announced

The Life Time Grand Prix, a prestigious off-road cycling competition in North America, recently finalized its Wild Card entries following the rigorous Unbound Gravel event. This year's Unbound Gravel presented a demanding challenge for participants, characterized by difficult terrain and adverse weather, including widespread mud. For some competitors, it resulted in triumph, while for others, it led to mechanical failures and injuries. Crucially, the event also marked the conclusion of the selection process for the highly sought-after Wild Card positions in the Grand Prix series.

The Life Time Grand Prix stands as the leading off-road racing series in North America, encompassing six events held across five U.S. states over a seven-month period. For the 2026 season, 50 riders will vie for a portion of the significant $350,000 overall prize fund, with an additional $240,000 distributed across the individual events. Entry into this series is by invitation, with organizers carefully selecting participants. To offer more opportunities, Life Time initiated a Wild Card program before the 2025 season, providing an alternative pathway for riders who were not initially chosen.

This Wild Card initiative dramatically impacted the series in 2025 when New Zealander Cameron Jones, a mountain biker, secured a Wild Card spot. He went on to win Unbound Gravel and Little Sugar, ultimately dethroning Keegan Swenson and claiming the overall series title. Jones highlighted the program's value, stating it proves that Wild Card entrants can be genuine contenders capable of disrupting the standings, predicting another Wild Card might clinch the overall title in 2026 due to the depth of talent.

For the 2026 season, Life Time allocated three men's and four women's positions through the Wild Card pool. An additional female spot was added after a previously selected rider withdrew. The competition for these coveted places was intense, with nearly 80 athletes participating in the program. Riders' performances at the Sea Otter Classic Gravel and Unbound Gravel, the first two events of the season, were crucial in determining who earned a place in the Grand Prix field.

With the initial two rounds now concluded, the confirmed Wild Card riders have been announced. The women's field sees the return of American riders Hannah Shell and Jenna Rinehart, along with Brit Danni Shrosbree. They are joined by New Zealand's Charlotte Clarke, a newcomer to the series. In the men's category, Latvian Olympic mountain biker Martins Blums will make his debut, alongside returning riders Matthew Wilson from New Zealand and American Skyler Taylor.

The Wild Card program continues to demonstrate its significance in the Life Time Grand Prix, offering a platform for new and returning talent to compete at the highest level of North American off-road cycling. The inclusion of these athletes promises another exciting and unpredictable season, building on the success and competitive spirit fostered by previous Wild Card participants.
