Rapha Enhances Brevet Collection for Endurance Cycling with Enhanced Storage and Performance
Rapha has recently unveiled a significant upgrade to its Brevet collection, targeting the evolving demands of long-distance and ultra-endurance cycling. The latest iteration introduces enhanced storage solutions, a more streamlined fit, a newly designed chamois, and refined reflective detailing. This comprehensive refresh aims to deliver superior performance without compromising on comfort, acknowledging that sustained comfort is crucial for efficiency during multi-day events. The collection is now available, with pricing starting from £16 for accessories and reaching £260 for the advanced Cargo Bib Shorts III.
The Brevet series is renowned for its dedication to endurance cyclists, offering apparel that merges all-day comfort with high visibility and practical carrying capacity, making it ideal for extensive rides, competitive ultra-racing, and bikepacking excursions. The current enhancements push these attributes further, specifically catering to the rigorous requirements of ultra-endurance racing, a rapidly growing segment within the cycling community. Ultan Coyle, Rapha's Chief Creative Officer and a two-time finisher of the Transcontinental Race, underscored the brand's philosophy: "Brevet is built around a simple idea: over long distances, comfort and speed are not opposites. They rely on each other." This guiding principle ensures that every piece supports the rider effectively, enabling them to focus on their journey, whether it spans hours or days.
Key innovations in the updated collection include increased storage options, an all-new chamois for superior comfort, and meticulously refined reflective elements that retain the line's iconic horizontal stripe. These stripes now feature a contemporary perforated and dot pattern, which Rapha states is considerably lighter and more pliable than previous versions, promoting unrestricted movement and enhanced comfort around the chest area. Among the standout new offerings are the Brevet Cargo Bib Shorts III, priced at £260. These are presented as Rapha's lightest cargo bib shorts to date, crafted from durable, high-performance Italian fabrics, with 64% of the main body made from recycled materials. The shorts incorporate four pockets—one on each leg and two at the lower back—along with a new chamois specifically engineered for the most gruelling ultra-endurance races. The women’s variant also includes a practical nature break system.
Accompanying the cargo bib shorts are two updated jerseys: the Brevet Merino Jersey III (£195) and the Brevet Lightweight Jersey III (£160). The Merino Jersey III is crafted from Rapha Performance Merino (RPM) blended with recycled polyester, making it suitable for varying weather conditions due to its natural thermoregulation and odour-resistant properties. Conversely, the Lightweight Jersey III is designed for warmer climates, utilising ultra-lightweight, quick-drying materials to effectively manage heat and moisture. Both jerseys feature Rapha’s innovative Brevet Air Pockets—a “floating” five-pocket system (three open, two zippered) that remains elevated from the body when filled. This design, combined with an integrated mesh panel, enhances airflow and mitigates heat buildup on the lower back. The fit of the jerseys has also been optimized for speed, featuring a shorter body, and riders are advised to select their usual Pro Team or Classic size for optimal fit.
Further additions to the collection include the refreshed Brevet Wind Gilet III (£140), offering a resilient, high-visibility barrier against wind and road spray, complete with a two-way zipper for easy access and temperature regulation. It also features a self-storing pocket for convenience. A new item, the Brevet Packable Backpack (£90), provides 10 litres of capacity for carrying extra essentials, whether commuting, travelling to a campsite, or making mid-ride stops. It includes Rapha’s signature reflective stripe and an internal pocket that allows it to compress small enough to fit into a jersey pocket. Victor Bosoni, a Transcontinental Race champion, praised the range, noting how it significantly reduces the mental burden during ultra-distance riding, allowing riders to concentrate fully on their progress and enjoyment of the journey.
The updated Rapha Brevet collection embodies a fusion of comfort, practicality, and performance, thoughtfully designed to meet the rigorous demands of long-distance cycling. With its innovative storage solutions, refined fit, and enhanced reflective details, the range aims to support cyclists in achieving their best, ensuring that every hour on the bike is as comfortable and efficient as possible.
