Recall of Stromer E-Bikes Due to Fork Failures Expands

Swiss bicycle manufacturer Stromer has announced an expanded recall for several models of its electric commuter bikes, citing a critical safety concern related to the front suspension forks. This follows an initial recall issued last year for approximately 6,500 units.

The recall primarily affects Stromer’s ST3, ST5, and ST7 e-bike models equipped with WREN suspension forks. The core issue lies with these forks' steerer tubes, which have shown a tendency to prematurely weaken, leading to cracks, fractures, or complete separation during operation. Such a failure significantly increases the risk of riders losing control of their bicycles, potentially resulting in falls and serious injuries. Stromer previously reported receiving 15 complaints regarding fork failures, with eight of these incidents causing injuries to riders. The company has explicitly advised its customers to immediately stop using their Stromer bikes until the faulty WREN suspension forks are replaced. The broadened scope now includes a batch of forks that, despite a modified design featuring an oval hole instead of the original round one, are believed to carry the same safety hazards as the initially recalled WREN forks.
