Red Bull Rampage Returns to Original Utah Venue

Red Bull has officially announced the return of its extreme action sports event, Red Bull Rampage, to its foundational location in Virgin, Utah. This move signifies a reunion with the site that hosted the freeride mountain biking competition from 2001 to 2004, promising a nostalgic yet exhilarating experience for athletes and fans alike. The anticipation surrounding this announcement began in June, following a public notice from the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) inviting comments on a Special Recreation Permit application for the event.

The early editions of Red Bull Rampage at this original site were characterized by a reliance on natural terrain, pushing the boundaries of freeride mountain biking with minimal artificial structures. Subsequent years saw the introduction of man-made features like ladder drops and large jumps, necessitating moves to different venues in 2008 and 2016. The question now looms: will the 2026 event revert to purely natural terrain, or will it incorporate modern course design elements? The preliminary Environmental Analysis (EA) suggests that athletes will still have the freedom to craft their routes on steep, natural inclines, with infrastructure being largely temporary and concentrated on private lands adjacent to the main course.

The upcoming Red Bull Rampage will feature both men's and women's competitions, each with a roster of pre-qualified athletes and wild card entries, along with alternates. The event is set to kick off on Thursday, October 8th, with the women's competition, followed by the men's event two days later on Saturday, October 10th. This return to the "OG site," as some riders refer to it, boasts a vast 90-acre area with an impressive 700-foot vertical drop and a new, elevated start gate, ensuring a challenging and spectacular display of freeride talent.
