Salsa Introduces the Wanderosa: A Full-Suspension Electric Gravel Bike

Salsa Cycles has unveiled its latest innovation, the Wanderosa, a full-suspension electric gravel bike that pushes the boundaries of off-road cycling. This new model, teased since November, marks a significant entry into a nascent category, offering riders a unique blend of power, comfort, and versatility for diverse terrains and extended adventures.

The Wanderosa boasts a sophisticated carbon fiber frame incorporating a flex-stay design, providing 110mm of rear suspension travel. This is complemented by a 120mm travel suspension fork, ensuring a smooth ride over rugged landscapes. At its core, the bike is propelled by FAZUA's Ride 60 mid-drive motor, delivering 60Nm of torque, powered by an integrated 480Wh battery. This system offers class 3 assistance (class 1 in Canada), designed to help cyclists conquer longer distances and more demanding trails with greater ease. This launch is Salsa's fifth electric bike platform introduced since early 2024, demonstrating their rapid expansion in the e-bike market.

Joe Meiser, Salsa's category manager, highlighted that the Wanderosa's development was deeply informed by the team's extensive experience with electric bikes. He emphasized the goal of synergizing the potent FAZUA Ride 60 system with a ride quality that truly enhances the gravel cycling experience. Meiser noted that the Wanderosa comes from a team historically instrumental in defining gravel biking, now intent on evolving that definition with cutting-edge products.

Designed with progressive drop-bar geometry, the Wanderosa targets riders seeking electric assistance to explore further and tackle more formidable terrain. Its headtube angle is set at a relaxed 65.3 degrees, which, combined with a lengthy rear center, contributes to remarkable stability on technical sections. The steep 75.1-degree seat tube angle provides an ergonomic pedaling posture. Additionally, the handlebar widths, ranging from 44cm to 52cm, are meticulously matched to the bike's frame sizes, from XS to XL.

A notable feature of the Wanderosa is its adjustable rear suspension, which can be reduced from 110mm to 100mm by altering the shock stroke. The flex-stay design not only shaves off overall weight but also minimizes maintenance requirements. This design choice also facilitates the integration of flat-mount rear brake calipers discreetly positioned within the frame's triangle. The frame itself is constructed from high-modulus carbon fiber, offering durability and lightness. It provides ample clearance for tires up to 29 x 2.35 inches and is compatible with SRAM UDH. Practical elements include on-bike cargo mounts for essentials, direct mount compatibility for a custom frame pack, and designated spots for a water bottle, tool, tube, and pump.

The Wanderosa is available in three distinct models: the Apex Eagle at $7,999, the Rival GX AXS Transmission at $9,999, and the premium X0 Force AXS Transmission at $12,999. While the Apex and Force models are currently available, the Rival GX build is anticipated soon. These bicycles represent a significant investment, reflecting their advanced features and high-quality components. With its electric assist and full suspension, the Wanderosa promises to unlock new cycling horizons, enabling riders to embark on more ambitious and enjoyable adventures.
