Salsa Introduces Wanderosa: A Full-Suspension Gravel E-Bike Pioneering a New Category

Salsa Cycles has unveiled its latest innovation, the Wanderosa, a pioneering Class 3 full-suspension gravel e-bike. This new model is poised to redefine the gravel cycling experience by integrating features typically found in mountain bikes with the versatility of gravel geometry. The Wanderosa offers a unique blend of comfort, control, and enhanced speed, enabling riders to tackle more challenging adventures than ever before.

The Wanderosa boasts an impressive suspension system, featuring 120mm of travel in the front and 110mm in the rear. This level of suspension is comparable to modern cross-country e-mountain bikes, providing significant shock absorption for rough terrains. Complementing its robust suspension, the bike is equipped with a long reach, a short stem, and unusually wide drop bars, which range from 44cm on smaller frames to 52cm on larger ones. These design choices aim to enhance stability and control, particularly at higher speeds and on uneven surfaces. Additionally, a dropper post and generous tire clearance up to 2.35 inches further contribute to its off-road prowess.

Salsa Cycles describes the Wanderosa as a "genre-bending blend of full-suspension capability, progressive drop-bar geometry, and motorized assistance." The bike's advanced geometry, including a slack head angle, steep effective seat tube angle, and a long wheelbase, is specifically engineered for stability and confidence when navigating diverse landscapes. The power behind the Wanderosa comes from a FAZUA Ride 60 mid-drive system, which delivers 60Nm of torque and a 480Wh internal battery. This system provides a maximum assist speed of 28mph (20mph in Canada), offering a light-assist setup that encourages riders to push their limits on more aggressive trails. This combination of motor power and suspension makes the Wanderosa ideal for riders who envision longer, bumpier journeys.

The launch of the Wanderosa comes at a fascinating time in the cycling industry, as other brands, such as Pinarello with its Grevil MX, are also blurring the lines between gravel and mountain bikes. Simultaneously, event organizers like Life Time are establishing stricter definitions for bike types in races such as the Leadville Trail 100, specifically excluding drop bars from mountain bikes. Despite these debates, Salsa aims the Wanderosa at consumers who desire a unique gravel experience that extends beyond traditional boundaries. Joe Meiser, category manager at Salsa, emphasizes that the brand continues to develop products that redefine the essence of gravel riding, focusing on comfort, control, and speed for mountain-like conditions.

The Wanderosa is available in three SRAM build tiers, each featuring RockShox SID shocks. The top-tier model, equipped with a SRAM Force/XO Eagle AXS drivetrain, retails for $12,999 USD. A mid-tier option with a Rival/GX AXS groupset is priced at $9,999 USD, and the Apex-Eagle build is offered at $7,999 USD. These pricing options reflect the advanced technology and innovative design incorporated into this new category-defining e-bike, catering to a wide range of adventurous cyclists.
