Silca, a company renowned for its high-caliber cycling instruments and supplementary items, has significantly expanded its product catalog with the introduction of a diverse array of tires. This collection comprises 13 distinct models, meticulously engineered for both road and gravel biking, and offers a broad spectrum of tread designs and dimensions. The debut signifies a major strategic move for the brand, reinforcing its commitment to innovation within the cycling industry by addressing the varied demands of modern cyclists with specialized tire solutions.

Among the newly released offerings, the Silca Protocol RCG-3 stands out, particularly for mountain biking enthusiasts. This specific model is the widest available at launch and is the sole Silca tire offered in a 32-inch diameter, catering to riders seeking enhanced performance on challenging terrains. Marketed as an all-purpose race tire for varied conditions, it boasts superior puncture resistance. Professional cyclist Mike Woods notably competed with a prototype of this tire at Leadville, achieving a commendable 14th place on a prototype Ventum full-suspension 32er mountain bike. Weighing in at 710g for the 32x2.4-inch variant, it represents the heavier end of Silca's new tire spectrum.

Initial glimpses of the Silca Protocol RCG-3, as shared on Ventum's Instagram, suggested an unusual inverted knob design. However, it has since been clarified that while the knobs are not recessed, they exhibit remarkable detail and sharp angles, optimized for grip and performance. The RCG-3 is also accessible in 700c widths, ranging from 45mm to 55mm, which translates to approximately 29x1.75-inch to 29x2.2-inch in mountain bike measurements. The broader tire lineup categorizes products for both road and gravel use, with the majority (10 out of 13) designed for gravel riding, positioning the RCG-3 as a versatile option between the lighter, pavement-centric RCG-1 and the maximum-traction RCG-4 designed for rough, loose technical paths.

Silca's dedication to precision is evident in the extensive research underlying their inaugural tire range. Press materials highlight that each tread pattern is directional, and every tire incorporates Silca's exclusive Pulsar compound. This advanced rubber-silica racing compound is engineered to achieve an optimal balance between rolling efficiency, grip, and longevity, ensuring top-tier performance for riders. Furthermore, the tires' weights are competitive within the market, with road tires starting just under 300g and 45mm-wide gravel tires beginning at 460g.

These new tires seamlessly integrate into Silca's existing ecosystem of tire-related products, which includes inflators, sealants, rim tape, and valves. The brand recommends pairing the new tires with their Ultimate Sealant, specifically noting precise dosage requirements for various tire sizes. For instance, 45mm RCG tires require 90ml of sealant, while 50mm and 55mm tires need 100ml. The 32-inch model necessitates 135ml, whereas a 700x29 road tire only requires 55ml. To facilitate accurate application, Silca offers a dedicated sealant injector marked in 5ml increments. All new Silca tire models are uniformly priced at $99 USD and are available through Competitive Cyclist and the official Silca website.

In summary, Silca's foray into the bicycle tire market marks a significant expansion for the century-old brand, introducing a meticulously designed collection that combines advanced material science with practical performance for both road and gravel cyclists. This move solidifies Silca's position as a comprehensive provider of high-performance cycling equipment and accessories.
