Tern has announced a significant update to its HSD electric cargo bike, a popular choice for urban commuting and family transport. This new iteration features a more robust frame, an increased weight capacity, and introduces advanced functionalities such as automatic gear shifting and innovative drive systems, including the high-end 3x3 NINE hub gear. The company emphasizes its commitment to making heavy-duty cargo bikes as intuitive to ride as conventional bicycles, highlighting the HSD's suitability for replacing short car journeys.

While maintaining a familiar appearance, the latest HSD incorporates subtle yet impactful upgrades aimed at improving user experience and longevity. A stiffer frame with a lowered center of gravity enhances stability, and the maximum gross vehicle weight has been elevated to 190kg, allowing for a passenger of up to 80kg on the rear rack and an additional 20kg on the front. Ergonomic refinements include an upgraded VLT telescopic seatpost for easier height adjustments and a revised geometry that accommodates riders from smaller builds to those up to 205cm tall and weighing 130kg. The bike's design also prioritizes space efficiency, allowing it to be stored vertically and easily transported in vehicles.

The versatility of the HSD is further expanded by a comprehensive range of accessories. New additions like the redesigned Clubhouse Mini enclosure, with a hinged bar for easier child access, and the Hardshell Hauler for delicate items, augment its utility for carrying children, groceries, or other cargo. The new HSD line-up offers four distinct builds, all powered by Bosch's Smart System and Gen 5 mid-motors. The top-tier P9i model features a powerful 90Nm Bosch Performance Line PX motor and the German 3x3 NINE hub gear with Bosch's eShift for automatic and customizable shifting. Other models offer the Enviolo continuously variable hub or Shimano Nexus five-speed unit, all equipped with a Gates CDX carbon belt. With a 545Wh Bosch battery, the bikes offer an impressive range, ensuring ample power for diverse riding conditions.

Tern's latest HSD electric cargo bike represents a thoughtful evolution in urban mobility, offering enhanced capacity, advanced technology, and increased user convenience. This commitment to innovation not only streamlines daily routines but also encourages a more sustainable and active lifestyle, ultimately contributing to healthier communities and a cleaner environment. By continually refining their designs, Tern empowers individuals to choose eco-friendly transportation without compromising on functionality or comfort.
