Tour of Britain Men's 2026 Team Lineup Revealed
The eagerly anticipated team roster for the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Men's race has been unveiled, confirming a robust lineup of 18 teams set to compete. Among these, five elite WorldTour teams are poised to challenge for supremacy, promising an exhilarating competition. The event is scheduled to kick off on September 2 in Lincoln, drawing attention from cycling enthusiasts across the globe. This year marks a slight increase in WorldTour team participation compared to 2024, though it remains a reduction from the nine teams that graced Britain's premier cycling event last year, with prominent teams like Visma-Lease a Bike notably absent.
Among the confirmed WorldTour participants is the British contingent, Netcompany-Ineos, maintaining its consistent presence since 2010. They will be joined by recent Tour de France champions, UAE Team Emirates-XRG. Belgian squad Soudal Quick-Step, renowned for their impressive 27 stage victories in the modern history of the race, are also set to compete. Additionally, Decathlon CMA CGM from France and NSN Cycling from Switzerland, which includes British rider Lewis Askey, will add to the international flavor of the competition.
The status of the Tour of Britain as a ProSeries event, rather than a WorldTour circuit fixture, means that top-tier UCI teams are not mandated to participate. Several factors influence team managers' decisions. A significant consideration is the overlap with the Vuelta a España, a prestigious WorldTour event. Historically, teams might have chosen between the Tour of Britain and the Vuelta as preparatory races for the UCI World Road Racing Championships, slated for September 20–27 in Quebec, Canada. However, the Tour of Britain's condensed five-day format this year, designed to align with the Tour of Britain Women’s race, has potentially lessened its appeal as an optimal warm-up event.
Furthermore, European Union-based teams face additional financial and logistical challenges due to Brexit, which undeniably impacts their willingness to commit to the Tour of Britain. Despite these hurdles, the battle for the coveted green jersey is expected to be fierce. Beyond the WorldTour teams, several professional teams will also contend, including Pinarello Q36.5, which boasts talents such as 2022 Tour of Britain runner-up Tom Pidcock and current national road race champion Fred Wright. Swiss team Tudor, who secured third place in last year's team classification, is also returning.
The competition will also see the return of Flanders-Baloise from Belgium, making their 13th appearance, and American newcomers Modern Adventure Pro Cycling. Eight UCI Continental teams will debut, including France's St Michel-Preference Home-Auber93, with a rich 30-year history and Tour de France appearances, and Germany's Bike Aid, known for its humanitarian initiatives. Completing the lineup is the Great Britain Cycling Team, participating for the 19th time, offering local fans the chance to witness promising British talent compete against an international field on home soil.
The 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain promises an exciting showcase of cycling prowess, featuring a blend of seasoned WorldTour professionals and emerging talents. Race Director Jonny Clay noted, “The line-up will showcase what makes Britain such a special place to race, producing some entertaining racing across five challenging stages.” This highly anticipated event is poised to deliver memorable moments and celebrate the best of cycling in the country.
