Tour of Britain Women 2026: Stages, Riders, and What to Expect

Aug 18, 2026, 11:57 AM

The 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women is poised to deliver exhilarating competition, having shifted its calendar slot from May to August. This strategic relocation places the event as the final WorldTour stage race in Europe annually, perfectly timing it as a preparatory block for the September World Championships. This scheduling not only invites larger roadside crowds during the holiday season but also offers a prime opportunity for cyclists to secure significant season-ending results. The timing, ten days after the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, ensures ample recovery for those tackling cycling's most prestigious race, guaranteeing a fiercely competitive peloton ready for action in the Lake District.

Adding to the excitement, British cycling enthusiasts can celebrate the participation of four domestic teams—DAS-Hutchinson, Handsling Abla, O’Shea Red Chilli Bikes, and Smurfit Westrock. A recent UCI rule modification, which could have otherwise excluded them, has enabled these teams to contend against the world's best, showcasing local talent on an international stage. The five stages are designed to challenge and thrill, spanning from the picturesque Lake District to the scenic North Wales coast, through central Wales, and concluding in Leamington Spa. Each stage, particularly stages one to four, features an engaging 'parcours' crafted by organizers to ignite aggressive racing on early climbs and towards stage finishes, setting the stage for tactical battles and dramatic outcomes.

The lineup of formidable athletes includes Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), a dominant force in bunch sprints with an impressive record at the Tour of Britain Women. Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime), a former world champion, will target stage victories on punchier terrains while supporting Wiebes. Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney (Canyon-SRAM), a consistent performer, seeks to capitalize on hilly stages. Breakthrough star Paula Blasi (UAE Team L’IMAD) and Mauritian champion Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal), returning from injury, are also strong contenders. British national road champion Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon-SRAM) aims to leverage her recent Tour de France Femmes experience and home advantage for a strong performance, while other talents like Ally Wollaston, Lauren Dickson, Cat Ferguson, Lara Gillespie, Elisa Balsamo, and Noemi Rüegg are expected to make their mark.

The Lloyds Tour of Britain Women 2026 stands as a testament to the growth and dynamism of women's cycling. This event not only provides a high-stakes platform for athletes to test their limits but also inspires aspiring cyclists and sports enthusiasts. It underscores the values of perseverance, strategic excellence, and the spirit of competition, highlighting the power of sport to unite and entertain on a global scale.
