The Unibet Rose Rockets cycling team is preparing for its first major Grand Tour appearance at the Giro d'Italia this May. This significant announcement was made on Friday, marking a pivotal moment for the French ProTeam, which, despite widespread speculation, did not secure a spot in the Tour de France for the upcoming season.

The upcoming Giro d'Italia will feature all 18 WorldTour teams, alongside five ProTeams. These include Tudor, Pinarello-Q36.5, Bardiani CSF 7 Saber, and Polti VisitMalta. The Unibet Rose Rockets will also be joining this elite group. Notably, Cofidis has forfeited its qualified position, opening up an additional slot for participation. The competition is scheduled to commence on May 5 in Bulgaria.

The Unibet Rose Rockets have already demonstrated their competitive edge in the current racing season, securing a victory at the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana through their rider Dylan Groenewegen. Groenewegen, a seasoned competitor with six stage wins at the Tour de France, is not the only team member with extensive Grand Tour experience. Other notable riders on the roster include Wout Poels, Victor Lafay, and Odd Christian Eiking, bringing a wealth of expertise to the team's Grand Tour debut.

Bas Tietema, the founder of the Unibet Rose Rockets, expressed profound gratitude for this opportunity, emphasizing the symbolic importance of the Giro d'Italia as an iconic event in the cycling world. He highlighted that participating in such a prestigious race represents a major milestone for the entire team project, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the riders, staff, and partners involved. This wild card entry, he noted, provides an invaluable platform to showcase the team's capabilities to a broader international audience on cycling's biggest stage.

Tietema further articulated the team's ambitious goals for the Giro d'Italia, stating that their objective extends beyond mere participation. The team is committed to competing vigorously, with a clear aim to secure a stage victory. He specifically identified the opening stage, with its sprint opportunity and the coveted pink jersey at stake, as an immediate target. The Unibet Rose Rockets plan to adopt an offensive racing strategy from the outset, aiming for high visibility and to make a significant impact throughout the race.

The upcoming Giro d'Italia marks a significant debut for the Unibet Rose Rockets, offering them a prime opportunity to demonstrate their competitive spirit and secure a stage win, leveraging the Grand Tour experience of key riders.
