Wyoming's New Mountain Biking Frontier: Belvoir Ranch

Wyoming is currently experiencing a significant expansion in mountain biking infrastructure, particularly in the southeastern region. The corridor between Laramie and Cheyenne, already home to renowned trails at Curt Gowdy State Park and Happy Jack, is set to further enhance its appeal with the addition of Belvoir Ranch. This expansive ranch is poised to introduce over 12 miles of new singletrack trails in the coming year, with an ambitious vision to ultimately develop 30 miles of interconnected routes across three distinct phases.

The transformation of Belvoir Ranch into a recreational hub is a testament to strategic planning and community collaboration. Initially acquired by the city of Cheyenne in 2003 with the intent of establishing a new landfill, the land was ultimately deemed unsuitable for waste disposal. Subsequent evaluations highlighted its potential for water resources, which now serve as a vital supply for Cheyenne, and its immense recreational value. Through the dedicated efforts of individuals like Todd Thibodeau, owner of TPT Trails, and the financial impetus from wind energy leases and a substantial state grant, the long-dormant development plans for Belvoir Ranch were reignited, leading to the commencement of trail construction in 2024.

While public access to the newly constructed trails at Belvoir Ranch awaits the completion of essential infrastructure improvements, the future looks bright for mountain biking enthusiasts. The ranch’s diverse terrain, characterized by high plains, sagebrush, and unique geological formations, offers stunning vistas of Rocky Mountain National Park. The trail network is designed to cater to a wide range of skill levels, featuring approximately nine miles of beginner to intermediate flow trails and an additional four miles of advanced-intermediate to expert routes, complete with technical elements and jump lines. An adaptive trail further ensures inclusivity, alongside plans for equestrian trails and other outdoor activities, solidifying Belvoir Ranch’s role as a comprehensive multi-use recreation area within Wyoming’s burgeoning outdoor adventure landscape.
