End of an Era: Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles Websites Now Redirect to Evans Cycles

The independent existence of Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles, once major players in the British cycling retail landscape, has officially concluded. Their respective online platforms now channel visitors directly to Evans Cycles, signaling a complete absorption into the Frasers Group's operations. This development comes two years after Frasers Group, led by Mike Ashley, acquired the two distressed brands in March 2024 for a reported £3 million.

Following the acquisition, Frasers Group initiated a relaunch of the Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles websites, alongside a significant clearance sale of Wiggle's merchandise through Evans Cycles. This strategy was part of Frasers Group's broader ambition to become a leading sporting goods retailer in Europe. The redirection of the websites to Evans Cycles represents the final step in this integration, effectively retiring the distinct Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles brand identities. This outcome follows a period of financial instability for the companies, which had previously been sold to Signa Sports United (SSU) for £500 million in 2021 before SSU withdrew crucial funding, leading to administration. At the time of their takeover by Frasers Group, Wiggle CRC had laid off all 447 of its remaining employees.

Despite the consolidation, some of the in-house brands formerly owned by Wiggle, such as Vitus Bikes, DhB clothing, Lifeline Tools, and Fohn outdoor apparel, continue to be retailed through Evans Cycles. Evans Cycles itself, acquired by Frasers Group in 2018, has seen an improvement in its financial performance, reporting a profit of £388,000 in its latest accounts. This positive shift follows cumulative losses of £34 million since 2021, although the brand has also downsized its physical presence by closing eight stores and experiencing a reduction in overall revenue.

The transformation of Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles into a unified entity under Evans Cycles highlights the dynamic and often challenging nature of the retail sector. While individual brand identities may fade, the underlying commitment to serving the cycling community with quality products and accessible services endures. This evolution underscores the importance of adaptability and strategic integration in navigating market shifts and ensuring sustained growth.
