During an extensive nine-month testing period, the Dissector was predominantly used as a rear tire, though it also saw some time on the front. The test setup included two EXO+ casing Dissectors, one with a MaxxTerra compound and the other with MaxxGrip, despite a preference for a DoubleDown casing on the rear which was unavailable.

The previous iteration of the Dissector featured a distinct tread pattern characterized by tall side knobs and a tightly packed 2-3-2 middle tread. While this design offered excellent rolling speed, it often compromised grip and stopping power, particularly for aggressive riders. When comparing the new Dissector to the Minion DHR II, both are strong contenders for rear tire applications. The DHR II has long been praised for its balanced rolling speed and commendable grip across diverse conditions, making it a staple for general trail riding and bike park sessions. While the updated Dissector shares visual similarities with the Assegai, its performance characteristics align more closely with the DHR II. The Dissector generally offers faster rolling speeds than the DHR II, a difference that, though noticeable, isn't dramatically superior. Conversely, the DHR II maintains a slight edge in terms of outright grip, particularly in cornering confidence, braking traction, and performance in loose terrain. However, these differences are subtle and become most apparent in direct, back-to-back comparisons. Riders transitioning from a DHR II to a Dissector are likely to experience a minimal adjustment period. Ultimately, the choice between the two often comes down to personal preference or availability, as both tires deliver strong performance. A key consideration for the Dissector, however, is its lesser performance in wet and tacky conditions, where soil and debris tend to accumulate between the treads more readily than with the DHR II, making the DHR II a more favorable option in such climates.

Beyond its role as a rear tire, the Dissector also proves to be a viable front tire option, particularly for shorter travel trail bikes. In this configuration, it delivers dependable traction and confidence while minimizing rolling resistance. When paired with a Maxxis Aggressor or Forekaster on the rear, it creates an agile and efficient riding setup. While this combination may not offer the same cornering prowess as a more aggressive Assegai/DHR II pairing, the brief adjustment period makes it an appealing choice for riders seeking a blend of speed and grip.
