Reserve has introduced its latest innovation in cycling technology, the 48/53 GR gravel wheelset. This new product marks Reserve's first venture into aerodynamic wheels specifically designed for gravel riding, claiming to be their fastest off-road wheels yet. The development draws on the brand's extensive experience in both road and off-road racing, incorporating advanced design principles to enhance both speed and stability on varied terrains.

Reserve Unveils High-Performance 48/53 GR Gravel Wheels for 2026

On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, cycling enthusiasts received exciting news with the launch of Reserve's 48/53 GR gravel wheelset. Developed by Reserve, a company renowned for its racing heritage, these wheels represent a significant leap in gravel cycling technology. The design integrates principles from both high-speed road racing, reminiscent of the Tour de France, and the demanding conditions of World Cup XC mountain biking. The wheels feature a substantial 44mm external rim width, engineered to optimize airflow over the tire and around the rim, thereby minimizing drag. Despite this generous external dimension, the internal width remains a practical 30mm. This configuration is intended to create a larger tire contact patch, providing superior grip without the common 'lightbulbing' effect where narrower rims can compromise tire stability. A standout feature is Reserve's innovative Hollow Hook construction. This design meticulously shaves weight from the outer edges of the rim, boosting overall performance without sacrificing structural integrity. This unique construction also played a crucial role in enabling the creation of the wheelset's distinctive wide profile. The 700c wheelset comes equipped with Sapim CX-Ray Aero Bladed Spokes and DT Swiss 350 hubs, which support centerlock brake rotors and are available with XDr or HG freehubs. The complete wheelset is priced at £1,599, with individual rims available for £649, catering to riders seeking a competitive edge in fast gravel environments.

This launch from Reserve highlights the increasing focus on aerodynamic advantages within the gravel cycling segment. As modern gravel racing evolves, manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of design and engineering to deliver faster, more capable equipment. The 48/53 GR wheelset exemplifies this trend, offering riders a blend of speed, stability, and advanced technology. It suggests that the pursuit of marginal gains, long a staple of road cycling, is now firmly established in the off-road arena, prompting riders to consider how specialized equipment can elevate their performance on gravel paths and beyond.
