Sustrans and Bosch Launch Free E-Bike Charging Stations on National Cycle Network

Sustrans and Bosch eBike Systems have forged a new alliance to roll out complimentary e-bike charging facilities along significant stretches of the National Cycle Network. This collaborative effort seeks to empower electric bicycle users with the confidence to embark on extended journeys and discover more of the UK's diverse landscapes.

This initiative builds upon a previous successful venture by Bosch, which last year saw charging points integrated into the Perthshire Gravel project's cycling trails through a partnership with Highland Perthshire Cycling. The newly introduced PowerStations are currently optimized for Bosch batteries, offering an 80% charge in approximately one hour. These stations are housed in accessible indoor locations, eliminating the need for personal charging cables and featuring secure, lockable compartments for up to six batteries simultaneously. Six such stations are now operational, including sites at Eastside Community Trust on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, Sherwood Forest on National Route 6, and four along Scotland's 234-mile Caledonia Way, stretching from Campbeltown to Inverness.

The expansion of these charging stations marks a significant step towards a more inclusive and accessible cycling future. By alleviating range anxiety, this project will encourage more individuals to embrace e-biking, fostering healthier lifestyles and a deeper connection with the natural environment. The commitment to future compatibility with other battery systems further underscores the long-term vision of making these routes enjoyable for all e-bike enthusiasts.
